What data we collect

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you become a tipster, we also collect identity verification details through Stripe, and whatever profile information you choose to add, bio, avatar, sports you cover, and so on. We also keep a record of the picks, subscriptions, messages, and reviews you create while using TruthEdge, since they're the core of what the platform does.

How we use your data

We use your data to run the core features of TruthEdge: creating your account, processing subscriptions and payouts, calculating verified stats, showing you relevant tipsters, and letting you communicate with tipsters and other subscribers through community chat and direct messages. We don't sell your personal data to third parties.

Automated processing

Two parts of TruthEdge process your data automatically, without a person reviewing each outcome:

  • Pick settlement. Every pick is locked when its match starts and marked won or lost from the official final result once the match ends. Those settled picks are what your public win rate, ROI, and total pick count are calculated from.
  • Leaderboard ranking. Tipsters with at least 30 settled picks are ranked publicly by ROI, highest first. Both the threshold and the sort order are applied by the platform, and where a tipster lands affects how visible their profile is.

Neither of these produces a legal effect for you, and neither decides whether you may use TruthEdge. Suspending or terminating an account under our Terms of Service is always decided by a person, never automatically. Where automated processing has been applied to your data, you have the right to be told which personal information was used and what the main factors behind the result were, and to send written observations to our privacy officer asking that a person review it.

Cookies and analytics

Supabase Auth uses a strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in, the platform doesn't work without it. Stripe sets two further strictly necessary cookies (__stripe_mid and __stripe_sid) on the pages where you enter or manage a payment method; Stripe uses them to detect fraudulent payments, and we cannot take payments safely without them. We also use Vercel Analytics (cookieless, aggregated page-view data) to understand traffic, and Sentry to catch and diagnose errors, which may include your IP address, browser information and the page you were on when something breaks. Sentry does not record your sessions and does not set a cookie. We don't use advertising trackers or third-party marketing cookies, and every cookie above is strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, so no consent banner is shown.

Data sharing

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers to operate TruthEdge, some process data outside Québec (notably in the United States), and we only work with providers who maintain privacy and security standards comparable to what's required here:

  • Stripe handles all payments, subscriptions, and tipster payouts, and performs identity verification for tipsters. TruthEdge never sees or stores your full card details.
  • Supabase stores your account data, picks, messages, and other platform content securely.
  • Resend delivers transactional emails (confirmations, notifications, receipts) on our behalf.
  • Vercel hosts the platform and provides cookieless traffic analytics.
  • Sentry helps us catch and fix bugs by collecting error reports.

Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data and profile content within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep certain records (like payment history) for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your rights

You can update your profile information at any time from your account settings. You also have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or outdated information.
  • Request a portable copy of your data, in a structured, commonly used format.
  • Delete your account, which cancels any active subscriptions and removes your personal data (subject to the retention exceptions above).
  • Withdraw your consent to any specific, non-essential use of your data at any time. Doing so does not affect anything we lawfully did with it before you withdrew it.
  • Ask us to stop disseminating your information, or to de-index it. If personal information we publish about you is disseminated in a way that contravenes the law or a court order, or if its dissemination causes you serious injury to your reputation or privacy that clearly outweighs the public interest in knowing it, you can ask us to stop disseminating it, or to remove or de-index any link that leads to it. Verified pick history and published performance stats are the substance of what TruthEdge is, so we weigh each request on its own facts and put our reasoning in writing if we refuse.

To exercise any of these rights, email our privacy officer at privacy@truth-edge.com. We respond within 30 days of receiving your request, and access to your information, along with a copy of it, is free of charge. If we refuse a request in whole or in part, we tell you why in writing, cite the provision of the law we rely on, and explain how to ask for a review. You can also file a complaint with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec at any time.

Privacy incidents

A privacy incident means unauthorized access to, unauthorized use of, or unauthorized disclosure of your personal information, or the loss of it, whether that happens on TruthEdge itself or at one of the providers listed above.

When we become aware of one, we act promptly to reduce the risk of injury and to keep it from happening again. We keep a register of every privacy incident, whatever its severity, and each entry is retained for at least five years. If an incident presents a risk of serious injury, we notify both the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec and every person affected, with the least possible delay, and we tell you what information was involved and what you can do to protect yourself. Where notifying you individually is not possible, we publish a notice instead. Our agreements with the providers listed above oblige them to report incidents affecting your data to us, so that we can meet these obligations.
